Class Notes:
1.        The geographic grid is a system of imaginary arcs drawn in a grid pattern on the Earth’s surface.
a.       Meridians are arcs drawn between the North and South Poles.  Each is numbered, according to a system known as longitude.
2.       Values range from 0 (prime meridian) to 180 east or west longitude
3.       Parallels are arcs drawn parallel to the equator and at right angles to meridians.  Each is numbered according to a system known as latitude.
4.       Values range from 0 (equator) to 90 north or south
Parallel=horizontal-latitude
Meridians=vertical-longitude
Prime Meridian in England, starts at 0 longitude
1 degree=60 minutes
1 minute=60 seconds

Tropic of cancer lies at 23.5 N
Tropic of Capricorn lies at 23.5 S
